This has reference to the news dated 18 April 2016 ‘Cavrem to Corlim peoples voice need to be heard’. If that is the case, then it is just not Corlim but all the villages which fall under 20 km radius from where Deccan Chemicals is going to operate need to press their panic buttons. I do not want to go into the details of this transfer as Herald has already enlightened the entire nation and the world about the history and the credentials of this company (Deccan). But would definitely give some suggestions to the Government to think twice before going ahead with the clearances, provided the following questions are addressed.
1) Why is that only manufacturing plants, which have tendency to pollute the environment given preferences over non polluting industries in Goa?
2) Why are similar plants closed down in places like Mumbai and moved outside the suburbs to uninhabited areas?
3) There are so many colleges in Goa, who churn out graduates from different discipline, is it their destiny to migrate outside Goa in search of greener pastures?
It would be prudent for the government to start an IT park or for that matter even SEZ which would cater to hordes of Goan students who pass out every year and move out of the state. SEZ could also cater to different TPO’s, KPO’s, & BPO’s as this step could also bring many qualified Goan’s back to our state.
The place where Syngenta is located has got the right ambience and infrastructure to cater to such requirement, it would solve the major problem of unemployment in Goa and also take care of the environment.
I write this letter with great concern as being a Gaonkar of Santo Estevam. God forbid, if there is any misadventure by this company, another horror similar to Bhopal tragedy, is staring right at our doorsteps. I urge the Government to take a wise decision taking into consideration the concerns put forth by many knowledgeable souls and give the Goan youth the rightful choice for gainful employment. Also the decision of the Church of Goa is eagerly awaited as they are the stakeholders in this matter. To the concerned decision makers, the Goan youth are watching you.
