Demo: A success Or a blunder

A year later, PM Modi claims demonetisation has been successful while former PM Manmohan Singh claims is a blunder. Needless to take a note of PM Modi’s claim, people will remember the dark days following his elevation as PM of India who had promised better days to come ahead a promise not only unfulfilled but pained the working class by imposing a non-planned demonetisation on November 8, 2016.
The move initially appeared as a populist measure to go after the hoarders of black money in the form of high end value notes and was also projected to start a cashless economy, thereby putting less burden on cash payments and more important to stop funding of terror activities from across the border. People from all walks of life initially cooperated with the PM’s decision but as time went by people are slowly coming to know the PM had his own agenda.
Every action has a reaction. In the three completed years of governance by the BJP government the corporate sector stands to benefit rather than the poor sections of the society and this is evident from the fact the Modi government introduced for the 1st time service charges on savings bank to the tune of Rs 100 in metropolitan cities and Rs 50 in urban areas per month if the desired balance is not maintained by the customers a move that will spell disaster, precipitate anger and resentment among the masses.
The last to hit the business community and the common man was the hastily drawn Goods and Services Tax launched in a historic manner by holding a mid night session of both houses of Parliament  which proved to be a disaster for the Modi government.
In remembering the completion of one year of demonetisation, the masses will remember BJP government headed by PM Modi played hard ball with the same masses who had elected his government to power in May 2014. Needless to mention masses in India have sharp memories and may not be as mature as the electorate in advanced countries where they change the governments through the electoral mandate. The masses may not say loud and clear “Our unity and diversity have proved we are not a nation with half baked nationalism. We are a nation which has seen many ups and downs. Some of us have seen and heard of excesses during Emergency. We are a nation who defeated mighty Indira Gandhi when she faltered. We are a nation who rose to the occasion and stood in unity when the country faced external threats and we will overcome all the hurdles to bring back the country on path of development”.
