Tunisha Sharma, age 21, a well known celebrity, committed suicide, as per the media reports it is said that she was heartbroken and could not take the break-up with her boyfriend Sheezan Khan.
A successful, young and financially very well secured Tunisha could not handle the pressure. As common man, when we think of suicide, we have a picture of poor skinny farmer and never these well to do rich people.
As per WHO, in 2021 alone, there were 8 lakh suicides in the world and 20% of these were in India, i.e., 1.6 lakh people in the country have committed suicide in 2021, of these 93,000 were the youth and almost 7,500 were due to break up in love affairs and many more due to depression, unfortunately the numbers are increasing each year.
Mental health is a very serious issue, very dangerous, as it cannot be seen.
Had we started working seriously after the death of Sushant Singh Rajput we would have had reached somewhere, we spoke about the death being a murder and not a suicide and we never tried to address the issue of depression, which all could see.
Wonder why no love jihad angle was found when Pratyusha Banerjee of Balika Vadhu committed suicide, maybe because her boyfriend was Rahul Raj Singh. Numerous suicides take place due to heart break and if it is interreligious the media works overtime to cash on the opportunity whereby filling the society with hate against each other and of course the politicians also cash on the opportunity.
There are many in this glamorous world who could not take the high stress and the high pressure and committed suicide in the last 2-3 years, well known actors like Vaishali Thakker, Manmeet Garewal, Shejal Sharma, Kushal Punjabi, Preksha Mehta, Sameer Grewal and many more.
It is the need of the hour that we start dialogue and discussion in the society on the issue of depression. The only way to address this issue is to accept it as a disease and only then can we treat it.
Some basic points to start with,
1) Our kids are facing a lot of pressure, be it exams or love life or jobs, we need to talk to them daily compulsorily,
2) Stop spending lot of time on social media and encourage your family members to do the same instead spend time with each other
3) Prayers and meditation have soothing effect on our mind and body, hence pray together
4) Socialise with friends and relatives, it relaxes our mind
5) Need to develop habit of listening to people and we will be able to help a lot of people,
6) If we come across someone who needs help, take help of experts and professionals, rather than trying to resolve it.
Unless we all work together, we will not see results, various religious and cultural organisation work together on this front, let us together fight this disease and many other evils plaguing the society at large.
Not difficult if we start.
