At this critical juncture when Goa is on the verge of annihilation with the CRZ and NDZ violations for mega-projects like Mopa, Tiracol golf course, Raheja constructions and other unsustainable projects; where are all the educated gone? – Doctors, engineers, lawyers, teachers, priests of all religions with their flock and above all the youth who is the fulcrum of our society?
Has education failed to inculcate in us proper values of patriotism and loyalty to our mother land which is being ravaged by our own representatives who have been given a free hand with no checks and balances?. “I say, that power must never be trusted without a check”-John Adams. Or, has education promoted only rote learning with no connection to reality for the educated seems to be nonchalant to the devastation going on of our scarce Goan land, which is irreversible. This would not have been the plight if the teachers had to discuss debate or give assignments on issues pertaining to our cultural, social, economic and physical environment. If youth in America are suing Barack H. Obama for climatic imbalances due to green house effects is because their education system promotes critical thinking. We ‘susegado’ Goans should take a leaf from jasmine revolution in 2011 which was a combination of human right activists, lawyers, industry labour and every right thinking citizen which garnered them victory in having the first democratic election and adoption of constitution in 2014, besides causing ripples in other countries like Libya, Egypt etc where dictators were overthrown.
It is now or never. Let all the feisty Goans march forward along with their activists and wield their power and might to restrain these short sighted-autocratic rulers from going forward with those environmentally unsustainable projects. Only with collective effort evil can be nipped in the bud. If the educationists in schools and colleges have failed to awaken us of the calamitous happenings around to assert our rights and abide by our duties let us at least be alert to the written and electronic media which is constantly focusing on critical issues daunting Goa and arise before Goa disappears from the map.
Allegations and counter allegations will not help. Actions should speak louder than words at this crucial hour.
