Don’t compare!

Comparison diverts our focus away from God. Such mindset leads to disappointment and gives rise to a miserable state of mind.

Every one of us wants to look the best. Some compare their features with that of others; and say to God in their mind: ‘You have not made me as beautiful like that girl.’

Such comparison is due to ignorance; they do not know that God never created clones; never duplicates. God only created original masterpieces. Even identical twins are not completely identical!

Some focus their eyes on the religion of others and indulge in worshiping two Gods.

This is because many have forgotten their God’s Commandment which says: “Thou shall not have strange Gods before me.”

A little influence by the evil person can toss you into wrong habits and make you polluted.

Every person wants to have the best of things. Some compare the articles their neighbours possess; and desire to acquire more and better items than what their neighbours hold; believing that the more material possessions they have, the happier they would be.

But they seem to be unaware that material goods brings only temporary happiness; with the passage of time people get bored with the gadgets they have collected; but their greed never fades away; they go on to have newer mobile, bigger car, better variety of the same things.

We all like to be thought as the best and get good opinions of the world around us. This desire puts us side by side to compare the praise our fellow citizen received from the public. Some, out of jealousy, focus their attempt to get such approvals from the same public with a showy life. But when they do not get any praise, they feel disappointed.

The Bible says, “A showy life is an empty life; a plain and simple life is a full life.” Jesus told the Pharisees, “You are always making yourselves look good, but God sees what is in your heart. The things that most people think are important are worthless as far as God is concerned.”

A parable from the Bible Mark 20, a landlord hired several men at different times of the day to work in his field. At the end of the day, he paid all of them the same amount for their work. The men, who had worked all day, complained saying, “These last workers have put in only one hour and you just made them equal to us, who slaved all day under a scorching sun!” The landlord said, “Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Why should you be jealous?”

This shows that we have to be grateful for what we have got and move on with our life without complaining. Helen Keller, though disabled was a great social worker.

Don’t compare it leads to jealousy which leads one to sin. In the Bible, we have Peter who denied Jesus as he feared what others might say. Cain killed his brother. Aaron built a golden idol to worship when the people pressured him. Be satisfied with what you have.

Remember, we are foreigners here and citizens of heaven. Before our temporary life experience on this earth comes to an end, let us trust in God. He lets problems to happen to people, so that they use their free will and come closer to Him by changing their wrong behaviour.
