Don’t try to gag tiatrists

Our tiatrists have been practicing their profession for decades entertaining our society through dramas, khell tiatrs, songs and beautiful dialogues and through their medium of entertainment they are educating our society in different ways. Have we rewarded them for their ingenuity, their creativity in writing scripts, dialogues, composing and singing meaningful songs? Most of the tiatrists are coming from families with poor financial background, but with God given talent they stand on their own feet and impart entertainment for our people in Goa, Mumbai, and sometimes in London, USA and the Gulf countries if invited by our Goan populace in those countries .
Our tiatrists have never imposed or tried to impose our Goan culture on cultures of other states. There have been several Konkani films post Liberation of Goa, notable among them are Amchem Noxib in 1963, Nirmon in 1966 and Buiearantlo Munis in 1977. Stalwarts like C. Alvares, Alfred Rose, M. Boyer, Souza Ferrao, Anthony Mendes Jacinto Vaz and Shalini, have acted in these films. Today they are no more. The films Amchem Noxib and Nirmon have been widely acclaimed in Mumbai, Africa and in London. Has the Government of Goa taken into consideration the valuable contribution of actors, directors, music directors and producers of these films?
With the demise of the old generation of actors, now we have a new breed of young and talented artists who are doing a wonderful job. People from all walks of life – rich or poor, high or low, young and old, attend tiatrs in large numbers. Tiatrists have been entertaining us, but the point is what have we given them in return? The government of Goa draws its power from the people of Goa who got them elected and we have a right to tell the government of Goa to be sensitive to the wishes of the theatrical fraternity and to the wishes of the people of Goa. If any individual is aggrieved for imposing outside culture on Goans the concerned individual may approach the court for redressal of grievances.
If the government of Goa goes ahead with the decision to constitute Censor Board for dramas, tiatrs and kell tiatrs in any form, it will be unfortunate, unconstitutional and anti democratic.
