Only the one wearing the shoes can tell whether the shoe pinches. The shoe seller only sees the money/profit he will get. If the next size is loose, the customer will not buy the same. The seller will then use all his guile to sell off the tight shoe. He sees only short term gains and does not realise he will lose a future customer. Or he does but he wants to get the maximum gains and then scoot. The customer must bear a sore foot and maybe even an ingrown toenail.
The politician is the salesman. He works for the ‘stake holders’. In the Tourism field, drugs mean ‘more’ business to all stake holders, more so for the drug lords. The tourists maybe their initial targets: but they consume the same for a short period of stay so it becomes a recreation only. No addiction. The drug lords have now ventured to the very interiors of Goa targeting schools. Locals are caught into addiction and need the same all year round. The ‘market’ of the drug lords are twosome: tourists who pay high amounts for short periods and the locals who pay low amounts for longer periods. Market analysts will see the latter as a higher turnover. This is the way the ‘stake holders’ view the trade.
The politician, who makes everything happen, does not wear the shoe. He needs to wear it. Next time there is foreign jaunt for them, let them go to Columbia or the Philippines. Let them go visit the places of people who wear the shoes. Let them visit places of negative tourism: not just enjoy the good places at taxpayer’s expense. Put this on your ‘people’s Agenda’ for the 2019 elections.
The Philippine’s President has started a war on drugs. The situation has reached such a state, that he is misusing his power and trampling on the rights of people with Officers indiscriminately killing anyone. Most recently a teenager has been shot by the police. North India including Punjab is shaking with the drug problem. Do we want Goa to get into a Philippine like situation? Do you believe that cannot happen here? Are you aware that drugs are openly sold near schools in non-tourist spots like the centre of Goa? Whenever there a hue and cry on anything: burglaries, chain snatching, prostitution etc. the Govt. will go in overdrive for a few days showing off ‘action’ against dispensable small timers- who also never get convicted with the Judge lamenting improper investigation. Right now, the Govt. is ‘cracking down’ on food joints run by foreigners saying these are fronts for drugs. Many are and will continue with Political patronage. What about the shops outside schools and colleges including the GMC? This is just an eyewash. The highest ‘tourism ‘earning in Goa must come from drugs.
