Endless Woes, Endless Promises!

At the time of every election there are endless EMPTY promises, offers and job assurances made to the public to garner votes! As at National level ‘ache din’ slogan, ‘Rs 15 lakhs’ in every account holder, the ‘Swiss-bank money…’, etc. While in Goa the fake speeches of providing twenty hour electricity/water, resumption of mining, taxi woes, etc. Above all government jobs! Till date para-teachers are not regularized, posts on contract and lecture basis continue… the hard reality. For four years these jobs are kept in store, like mushrooms come up only at election time?

Many times government jobs are advertised, the exams are held but its results not known and the jobs like the rain that comes/goes – seasonal? It is also interesting to note that whether you are in the ruling or the opposition, every elected representative get plum posts as Ministers or Chairman of different departments run by the government. Subsequently, when there are jobs, they are allotted and distributed to the elected representatives who sell these posts for lakhs of rupees. The one who pays the higher rate gets the post. I know someone known to me was asked to pay fifteen lakhs for the post which he declined as he could not afford.

Another woe – with elections close at hand, there is an order from the Chief Minister (CM) to repair the roads all over Goa and that he does not want to see potholes anywhere. I happened to travel to the North and the South this week. Yes, the work is taken up, no doubt but the way the potholes are filled, you get more bumps then before. Another question how long will they last? Worst, how many crores are laundered and how much of it is used for the purpose!!!

Endless woes! Yet shocked! To read what happened to the Patto by-pass bridge…how long has it been opened for public traffic? 80 years?

Is the CM in a hurry to inaugurate the new Cortalim Bridge – One way only, in December, just to fight the forth coming elections on Development? Not long enough did the Mandovi Bridge was haphazardly inaugurated. The everyday commuters know the woes, the wear/tear of vehicles, due to the newly constructed bridges and roads. As of now, one way is stopped – for repairs at Panjim! Whereas we have bridges that stood long seventy years and speak for themselves and the then government!

We want to tell the Government, not to hurry in the completion of the bridge and roads. Are five long years not enough to have the litmus test? to garner votes to prove majority? Why not fight elections on the coal and double tracking issues? How about basic essentials? The fuel prices? Is temporary reduction the solution?

Couple of days back there were demands made asking the CM to resign on the interview broadcasted. Along with the opposition, the other parties too sang the same tunes and one party demanding within 78 hours! While it was also interesting to read a day after, that being in the government one cannot say or speak anything against the Government even if one does the worst of things to the point of taking life of the other!

The then Governor, we all know sometimes back during his service to our state opposed the new Assembly construction when the state was/is into financial crunch and taking loans after loans from the Centre. And nobody knows where the Rs 800 crores went. Does the ED know how this money was utilised and provide its details to the public?
