The year 2022 was born on first January and is now dragging its tired limbs towards the end of its journey — the finishing line; — on midnight of 31st December, 2022. It is appropriate to open our eyes and bend our looks upon the state of affairs of our state. Whether we are experiencing “nitoll Goem” or “suj Goem” with mountains of garbage; whether the country is facing corruption and its countrymen are its victims; whether people are pleased with the arrival of “accha dins” or whether citizens are dissatisfied, here and there with “burra dins”; the issues of deaths due to drugs to brutal assault at nightclub; whether law and order has collapsed regarding attempts to kidnapping school children; rising crime rate; whether the system of government is heading towards dictatorship far away from democracy. It is proper to examine all this to make some improvement. We have to do something for our future generations the same as our freedom fighters have performed their part on this ‘terra firma’ and have liberated us from the clutches of foreign rule and have given us the fruit of freedom.
Recently, Infosys founder N K Narayana Murthy while speaking at a programme said, that in India, reality means corruption, dirty roads, pollution and many times no power. He urged the young Indians to create a new reality for the country. Yes, ‘we need to look up and not down; look forward and not back, and improve’.
We also have to do the rethink about our life. Our life is a drama on this stage called the Earth containing chapters of joy and sorrow, success and failure, pleasure and pain, health and sickness and temptations which each one of us writes on the sands of time.
As soon as a baby is born, it grows up and when it comes of understandable age, it gets preoccupied with insatiable thirst of survival instinct; hunger for power over others, excessive greedy inclination towards money and pleasure.
According to Jane Schaible we are aliens on this earth and Natives of Heaven — as we have been chosen by heaven’s Maker.”
Dutch Sheets says, “If you don’t discover God’s dreams, you’ll either waste your life running in wrong races and crossing wrong finish lines or, like many people, have no finish line at all.”
Robert D. Hales says, “It is not how you start the race or where you are during the race — it is how you cross the finish line that will matter.”
In the next world we can do nothing to improve our fate. As Father Abraham from heaven told the rich man in hell that ‘there is a deep pit lying between us and no one can cross it and come to you to cool your tongue’. (Lk. 16: 19-31). Therefore, we have to play our part by choosing the good and rejecting the bad; if we want to win Divine Oscar in Heaven.
As we chug closer and closer towards our finishing line of our lives, we do not know when; all we know that we have to give our account to God to gain high Heaven or deep Hell.
We have to look at the health of our soul; whether it is on the ‘road that leads to the “narrow gate” to salvation or marching on the broad side track that “leads to the wide gate: to damnation’. (Mt. 7:13).
