Recently we came across the clashes of two groups of fish vendors at Vasco and nothing has been done by the concerned authorities to solve their issue. The question is, who is responsible for that clash? How come such a large number of migrants are selling fish on the road side? The MMC, police, ministers, MLAs, etc. never happened to cross that road? Were they waiting till their fights started and turned into a war? If migrant fish vendors are claiming that they are selling fish for quite a long time, it means the concerned authorities have allowed these illegalities happening there because of vote banks. The MMC Chairperson comments that he does not have powers to curb the illegal sale of fish after sunset, is not the right answer they were expecting but they must have felt that he is not mature enough to do justice to his position. If the quarrel turns into the physical fight, which leads to murder of any one of person, would the chairperson say that the murder happened during the sale of illegal fish after sunset? Who will be held responsible then?
Not only the fish issue in Vasco but also fruits and vegetables are being sold at the road side all over the state which makes the traffic difficult to move smoothly and sometimes there are accidents. Why are there designated places for fish markets and vegetables markets? When there clashes the Police come, take a round and go, but nothing changes.
Now, at present only two things are to be followed: 1.The fish eaters must unitedly take a decision not to buy easily available cheap, unhygienic and unhealthy fish brought from another state, 2.The food and safety inspectors much check the conditions of the fish in the laboratories and once the result comes out, the media must create awareness amongst the public everyday that the fish which is sold on the road sides is not fit for consumption.
It is not just buy fish which is less priced, cook and eat, but one must be wise enough while selecting fresh fish. I would suggest the fish eaters to go little further in the market and chose the local fresh fish which is good for health of all.
