Children are always the biggest victims. They are incapable of rebuilding their lives, or even rushing to safety independently, and left to the whims of others. They can easily be coaxed into servitude and even exploitation with the promise of food and shelter, by predators, in the form of human trafficking
I write with reference to eight minor girls who were rescued in Vasco where they were held by a woman and even tortured. It is so lucky for them that their plight came to light when they visited a church. Some locals noticed that they were having burn marks on their hands. Wonderful Vasco locals who for love of humanity, intervened. I congratulate them to have noticed something amiss and for their quick response in doing what was the right thing to do, a phone call to NGO child line.
Here we see responsible human beings who don’t believe in the “I don’t care attitude”. The epidemic of silence around sexual harassment and assault is nearly as painful as the crime itself. Worse, this silence allows it to continue with such frequency, that I guarantee every woman and children you know has a story to tell. This isn’t just a Hollywood problem. This is a societal problem.
If you witness behaviour that could possibly be harassing or assaulting. If you see something, say something, we are all our brothers and sisters keepers
We don’t need to remind you of women abuse and now, child abuse. Everyone knows someone who has been affected, which means we are all affected. So how about talking about solutions? It is amazing what human beings can do to each other: to break the cycle of abuse against women and children by fixing the broken. And fixing the’ broken’ our Vasco locals did for those eight minor children .We appreciate the urgent and quick response of the people concerned and the rescue of these vulnerable children, But I end up with the words of R. Fernandes on people’s edit Friday 20th April “we are not consistent” who were these children” a good question and we hope there will be a light at the end of the tunnel for them.
