For the poor acche din is only a dream

Jerry Fernandes
The Narendra Modi-led government came to power by promising to usher the so-called ‘acche din’ or good days for all in six months. Unfortunately, even after the completion of one year, one can see absolutely no signs of the ‘acche din’ and the government is unnecessarily taxing the poor by raising electricity and water tariffs and doing nothing to bring down the prices of fuel and other basic commodities or fight inflation.
The BJP government at the centre is currently advising people to make sacrifices to help in nation building but not only is PM Modi going on foreign tours, so too are other ministers and that to at people’s cost. It looks like they are out to enjoy their own ‘acche din’ by misguiding the poor.
Some BJP leaders are suddenly seen telling the poor that ‘acche din’ will come after 25 years. In other words, they expect Indian voters to believe in this and keep electing them for another four consecutive terms to finally enjoy the ‘acche din’ after 25 years.
I feel that the BJP leaders are currently out to turn this secular country into another fundamentalist nation. It is time to stay alert and to stop dreaming of ‘acche din’ as when in power, all political parties are remote-controlled by the rich industrialists and corporates who enjoy their own ‘acche din’ by taxing the poor. I dare say that as long as political parties are controlled by industrialists and corporates and are run by brainwashed communal leaders from fascist groups, ‘acche din’ will never come for the poor in India even after thousands of years.
