Gift for Navelkars in 60 years of Liberation

Elections 2022 for Goa state assembly are round the corner. One can notice it, so many so-called social workers, political parties, making entry into Goa. Some of the candidates have changed political parties to serve Goa, its people and environment.

I have seen many projects in my Navelim constituency which are not people, our future generation or environmental friendly. I will list here some projects which are not beneficial according to me to Navelim and Goa in general. Readers/citizen from other parts of Goa might be facing same man-made problems.

Years back irrigational canal was built in village of Telaulim and some wards of Navelim, not a single drop of water has reached Telaulim/Navelim. My question so much area was acquired, so many hills were cut (or was it mining reject?), so much cement wasted, so much fuel was burnt to transport the material required to built the canal? What holds back the government to release water for agriculture purpose?

It is alleged that sewerage treatment plant at Sirvodem is releasing raw sewage into river Sal, the life line of Salcete. River Sal is polluted to such an extent that fish species are disappearing from the river and one gets rashes if one enters River Sal for a swim.

Sewerage tanks are built in the center of the road in village of Telaulim/Navelim all these tanks are leaking in monsoon.

My question is that when all household and housing societies are given connection to the sewerage system all our groundwater will be contaminated and who will be answerable to this mess?

The road from Calvaddo to Navelim junction (national highway 17/66) was widened by cutting number of decades old trees with a promise of footpath on either side. This stretch of road is not complete neither the footpath. My question is what was the need to widen the road when western bypass is built? Similar bypass road is built at Nuvem and Agassaim, but not a single inch of road is widened from Nuvem to Verna and from Agassaim to Goa Velha.

The Navelim junction near Rosary church is so busy, with parishioners, school/college going children, plus highway users. There is not a single speed breaker at this junction.

By building western bypass through fields, our lakes, fields, ponds, vegetation are completed destroyed with red soil. Two of our wards Coldem and Sinquitem have been deprived of fire brigade service as bridge height is not allowing the fire brigade to pass underneath. The major blunder is near Belem/Calvaddo ward western bypass junction which should have been on bridge is a death trap as many fatal accidents occurred here.

One can imagine the gravity of the situation when national highway 66 becomes fully operational. So many fields in Navelim are converted into housing project yet we see display boards saying “Make Navelim clean and green”. It was clean and green with vast fields ,rivers. It is just the opposite. Navelim is grey (with concrete jungle) and polluted. My question, is this the gift for Navelkars in 60 years of Liberation.
