We hear of various mafias in Goa: drug and prostitution mafia, matka mafia, illegal iron ore mafia, real estate mafia, fish mafia, roadside food gaddas, coal mafias etc.
In a small place like Goa, cannabis was cultivated and now Ketamine factory was found producing monthly around 20 cr of the drug. Is it possible that a drug mafia could get away with this kind of operation in Goa?
No, the fact is there is only one mafia controlling all such illegal activities: that is the political mafia.
The recent issue of fish preserved in formalin being sold in Goan markets and how politicians were settling the disputes brings this to the fore.
All these rackets generate huge amounts of money daily which means the controller of these activities stands to gain huge amounts daily. Everyone knows the daily hafta received by one South Goa Politician from the illegal mining traders that was a crore per day!
Earlier, politicians used to take a cut from only the projects executed by the Govt.: now they have ventured into all businesses in true mafia style. The danger is that Goans will be decimated and a point of no return will be reached. The actual operators of these shady businesses will ultimately become the rulers. This happened when certain known politicians in Goa started using goondas to get their way: these people ultimately became elected representatives!
Can Goans continue to be so foolish? This can happen only when the grass root workers of these politicians also receive their quota: but they will fall by the wayside soon. The worst part is that all of Goa will also fall with them.
The CM says he is personally monitoring the fish business: this problem of formalin was brought up in 2017 too. Can it mean Kerala, which found 10t tons of fish contaminated with formalin, and another 21 T just on 15 16/7 do not have a laboratory capable of testing the same? Is Goa not duty bound to offer them Goa’s Lab. capability? Why is the NIO silent on this?
Goa’s ills need to be placed at the feet of the BJP supporters: the BJP leaders do not care for them. Do you seriously think jobs will be created in Goa? Do you think reputed above board manufacturers will want to come to Mafia Goa?
