It is more than a moment of pride at Goa. Both the Districts i.e, South and North Goa are under Green Zone and the entire state has been declared as Green Zone by the Government of India. North Goa could eliminate its COVID-19 risk by its quick measures, while the South Goa remained Green since the beginning.
How this could happen?
My love for Goa and the Goans make me to reconfirm the fact that this could happen only due to the following qualities of Goans, which I have observed
Faith and Trust: The basic ideal of non-interfering social systems exist in many a Goan towns and dwellings. This is based on Faith and Trust. Overnight markets function without any security hazards or dangers for both sellers and buyers.
Safe abode: Foreigners visiting India find Goa as the safest abode because of its culture and the loving people.
Clean Habits and Pure Environment: It can be guaranteed that Goa has its beauty not only due to its landscapes and bounty of nature; but due to the cleanliness and also the pure, healthy environment maintained by the people of Goa.
Self-discipline: Goans are more self-disciplined and law-abiding. Goans respect their land and the people, irrespective of their Caste, Creed, Colour and financial status. Religion and Culture bind people. Nothing is overdone.
Love for the Land: When it comes to the question of choice, a Goan is ready to leave behind the huge fortune abroad and return to join the kith and kin. I have had live examples of these.
Social control: Though an open society, Goa has the highest standards of Societal Systems and Controls from within even before laws were enacted in Goa by the Government.
Empowered Women: Empowerment happened much before the rest of the country started thinking of the concept. It is more Social than Legal.
Landscape: Though looking small in size, Goa’s population is well dispersed and distanced in largely spread landscapes. Except in the towns, crowding is not seen as a matter of identity.
Social Distancing: Goans follow a system of timing in everything they do. People mention on ‘Susegad’ as a compliment! Goans do not waste time when they are at work! Perhaps they plan their work and its completion.
Travel: Generally speaking, travel is undertaken in Goa only by the tourists and the visitors. Goans in general limit their travel schedules to be completed within a framework of time. Connecting two Districts and five major cities of Goa i.e.,Margao, Vasco, Ponda, Mapusa and Panjim is well within the framework of time & distance.
Drinking Habits: Unlike in other States, Goans have clean drinking habits and less or even zero level of drunken brawls. It is a custom that wine and feni are manufactured at homes. The question of drunken behavior is mostly unheard of.
Well qualified Medical professionals are supporting the welfare.
