Hate speeches are here to stay

Hate speeches, which we generally witness on-line or in open fora (such as rallies and election speeches) can now be also witnessed in the new Parliament. This time, it is by none other than our Member of Parliament (MP) Ramesh Bidhuriji who is not from some interior of the country, but represents South Delhi. It is a pity that a mediocre person represents the people in the Parliament.

Our ex-president Ram Nath Kovindji had said that the Parliament is the temple of democracy, so why did the trustee of this temple stoop so low?

Recently, we witnessed a sitting MP setting new standards of how low we can get. A sitting MP slurring a colleague with the filthiest slang words and racial abuses which we would never dare to not say to our enemies.

The speaker Om Birla who was very quick in the past to hand out suspensions (for lesser offences) to MPs such as Derek O’Brien, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary and Raghav Chadha from the Opposition. Note that the decision to suspend these MPs was taken after a voice vote was called for. But now this the case of this particular MP Ramesh Bidhuriji has been let off with a warning(and we expect the speaker to be fair)  to not repeat this again. The BJP has also taken very stern disciplinary action and has given the said MP 15 days’ time to respond, as to why he used this language. Very convincing, right?

It has been said that the remarks are being expunged from the Parliamentary records, but in this day of social media we are all aware that the speech has been circulated to the entire world and all have seen this verbal abuse, not to an MP but to the entire community.

Very senior ex-ministers from the ruling party, Dr Harshvardhan and Ravi Shankar prasad were seen laughing and enjoying the show when the verbal abuse happened. Also wonder what Smriti Iraniji must be feeling as we all know how offended she was with the flying kiss (which broke all the sabhayata and sanskruti of the country, wonder which world she is living in) which was not directed to her but to the Members of the Parliament. Also wonder what she would do had the Opposition used this same language against the ruling bench.

Rajnath Singh, a very senior Minister of the ruling party has apologized. But apology without justice are words of no value. Racial slurs and abuses are the order of the day. The social media platforms, the election rallies, our schools, the films, our news channels are screaming day in and day out, targeting a particular community, slogans such as sabka saath, saabka vikas, saabka vishwas are a blatant lie and used only and only for politics alone, but in reality we have seen again and again that the hate politics is here to stay for a very long time, if not checked.

We are aware that nothing much is expected out of this entire episode as people will forget about it in a few days, but a entire community feels alienated in the country. The reality is, the Muslims of this country are alienated and we don’t need to be super intelligent to understand it. Hope the many chintan baithaks of the BJP ponder over the real threat to our New India oops, I mean Bharat.
