The year 2023 unfolded a mixed bag of surprises and shocks. The year saw many missions accomplished and at the same time witnessed many geopolitical conflicts. The year marked the successful landing of Indian spacecraft Chandrayaan-3 on the moon and we celebrated the triumph with pride. India became the fourth country to land a spacecraft on the moon and the first country to land near the uncharted south pole of the moon. The year 2023 can be called a year of space exploration. India hosted the G-20 Global Summit. India influenced the world and it would surely open new doors for better opportunities in trade and businesses. The Make-in-India policy also gained momentum this year.
We were overwhelmed with many victories and at the same time got disappointed with disputes. It was a year that gained stability but there was stress and chaos in many parts of the world – the Russia-Ukraine crisis and the Israel-Hamas conflict, to name a few. The ongoing wars kept the newsrooms busy. The year also recorded the hottest temperature ever globally.

In 2023, India surpassed China in population. Now, India is the most populous country in the world. The rise of AI brought a new revolution in technology. There were earthquakes, floods and cyclones around the world.
It was a trying year of hits and misses. The mega event of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 held in India saw many victories and record-breaking spree of stellar performances of Indian Cricket Team, though they lost the final match and trophy to Australia. The heart-breaking defeat in the cricketing extravaganza still hurts. Despite the loss of the World Cup, the Indian team won the hearts of all cricket lovers.
The year saw the reshaping of industries and the economy poised for strong growth. With robust demand, India is emerging as the fastest growing economy. Despite the global unrest and challenges, the economy maintained its growth and India witnessed a rise in GDP. The sensex hit a record all-time high. India is also attracting foreign investments. This year a new Parliament building was also inaugurated near the old one.
Covid-19 was not seen as a global health emergency and life was back to normal. Now, a new variant of Covid-JN1 variant is emerging and causing concerns with an upsurge in Covid cases. The virus still lingers.
As the year ends and we step into the New Year, we all try to assess the year gone by and welcome the New Year with new hopes and socio-economic developments. Though it was a stabilising year, serious instability prevailed in many countries. We hope for worldwide peace in 2024 and relief from the prevailing inflation and recession problems around the world.
As Taylor Swift once said, ‘”This is a new year. A new beginning. And things will change.’”
Like every year we are excited about the fresh year. We expect more progress in women empowerment, education and medical sectors; besides more advanced infrastructure and new opportunities. We enter the New Year 2024 with a positive bright outlook. We bid adieu to the past year and embrace the New Year with utmost zeal, while keeping fingers crossed for good luck ahead.
