Some people want to change the History of our nation. We can notice that with changing in names of our towns, villages, railway stations, museums airports etc. It looks funny since the names has been changed after the place was known for 300 to 400 years with those names. For instance Bombay to Mumbai, Bangalore to Bengaluru, Calcutta to Kolkatta etc. Even railway station like Victoria Terminus V.T to Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus CST.
Even airports and stadiums are not spared. Some fanatics, fundamentalist elements who thinks themselves as patriotic and historians and so-called there Swadeshi concept want to change many things which they feel is correct.
People forget the contribution of the Britishers what they have done for Bombay, those historic municipal buildings, architecture of railway stations, govt. offices, monuments etc. Today all the respect what Mumbai receives is only because of British efforts, architecture and their contribution towards building that city or any other metropolis.
Mumbai and Goa have many similarities, there are so many Goans settled in Mumbai since British rule especially in South Mumbai. Both Goa and Mumbai were Portuguese colonies and later Mumbai was gifted to Britishers as the Portuguese princess was married to Prince of England. Both Goa and Mumbai are close to the sea and Goan contribution is enormous towards a Mumbai’s economy.
I remember many Catholics in Goa used to call Bombay as “Bomoi” and who will forget the famous Konkani song “Bomoi voson yeta go Leela”.One can see in South Bombay areas like Dhobitalab, Marine Lines etc. Goan pao and can enjoy eating with delicious vindaloo on the doorstep.
Recently some fundamentalist are raising their heads in Goa and shouting slogans like ” Jai Maharashtra” “zalach machine” etc. in the long run it is harmful for peace loving Goa and they are planning to change the name of Goa into Gomantak. We don’t need those parties with it’s fanatic mentality and who want to change Goan identity so in 2017 assembly elections these parties should be totally wiped off by making them losing their deposits. They should know that Goans cannot be taken lightly. We should keep away our differences and vote for honest persons who give us good governance. Pray to almighty for honest politicians.
