While in the other states of the country one will find public transport services available even late in the night, this is not the case in Goa. In the state the public transport comes to a halt at about 8.30 pm and in some busy localities the service is available at the most till 9:30pm.
Now what happens if one has to catch a bus to go home and the last bus has already left? This question makes Goans skeptic of travelling at night with the thought that they could be stranded as there may be no public transport to take them back home. This is all the more true with lady commuters. It is pertinent to note that to the industrialization many workers have to work in shifts. The work culture has undergone a drastic change. Industries want to produce more with an eye on profit and one way of doing this is by operating 24X7 by introducing several shifts. For many workers the shifts either start or end up late at night.
Hence the question that arises is to reach the work place late at night or to reach home after the shift is over. Many of these workers also include the ladies, specially, those working as nurses in the private and government hospitals. For them the absence of late-night bus service is a huge draw-back.
The private bus operators may argue that there are fewer passengers travelling by the late-night buses and hence they tend to run into loses if they operate their buses during late-nights. It is here that the state-owned Kadamba Transport Corporation should step in and introduce late-night bus services at least between the major cities of the state.
