Mann ki baat

Dr Mariano H Correia

In the post-independence history of India, from the first PM Jawaharlal Nehru to the incumbent PM it is unprecedented to air on the A.I.R the monthly Mann ki baat which is dear to our PM’s heart but not so to the aam admi. He made it almost mandatory and a regular feature of his all authoritarian rule whether one likes it or not. Even on national holidays he obliged that all schools should by hook or crook provide a TV set so as to listen to his speeches. Now that he ruled the roost (country) for the last one and a half year, he freely aired his feeling from the heart and mind. As there is some turmoil and dissent in the country over the incidences that has happened during the past fortnight, the time has come for the PM to do some soul searching deep contemplation, as to where he is gone wrong and what is happening in our dear Bharat Mata.
As humans we always point our fingers to the enemy outside or in the neighbourhood, forgetting that it is inborn within us. The monster that troubles us specially the minority community is the communal discord and intolerance towards one another. It is the monster of hatred and jealousy and religious intolerance which flares up at the drop of a hat and turns into a towering inferno.
In such circumstances, be it the PM or CM is unable to douse the fire. He can’t be directly blamed for the same. It has been clandestinely orchestrated by some fringe group to infuse fear psychosis in the minds of the common man.
But the authority in power is incuriously responsible and hence have to take the moral responsibility and speak out their opinion unbiasedly. Keeping mum on the issue tantamount that the act is being committed in connivance and blessings of the higher ups. For instance the silencing of the lambs like Govind Pansare, Narendra Dabholkar and MM Kalburgi along with the lynching in Dadri shows there is no respect for human life and it is a fact that in India animals are held in high esteem and above human beings which is a travesty.
Mr Modi being the PM is answerable to the people who elected the BJP to power. Finally the most important question is why this chaos and such incidents occur with such impunity now only when the BJP is at the helm of affairs?
