If we read between the lines of how BJP and its hardcore allies in the country try to create a self righteous and patriotic mentality about them a few things may come to light and expose the face behind the mask.
Firstly it looks as if they try to demean every other person or organisation who are against them or against their view points. They try to step on the downfall of others. They demean the opposition parties to the extent that they even disrespect the former prime minister and even link him and his party to unfriendly countries like Pakistan. Their notion of patriotism is only linked to those who demonstrate by singing, and displaying their patriotism through publicly noticeable means, whereas those who silently serve the country in their own way are termed as unpatriotic because they do not display it publicly.
Looks like this self righteous and flawed patriotism is showing its “hood” in Goa too. On the liberation day the CM of Goa stated that a sentiment of De-nationalisation is raising its head in Goa. What does he mean by that? Let him make it clear what is Nationalisation for him first. Secondly he termed those opposing his governments “developmental” plans as those with negative mentality. Let him explain what is development for him or for the Government? Is it just building roads and bridges at the cost of environment, change in demographic and geographical setup of villages, to the extent of putting the very existence of our good old villages at the brink of extinction? Isn’t creating infrastructure in sync with nature and development in a way that preserves socio-cultural heritage of the State development? On the one hand Government is saying it wants to protect environment and agriculture and on the other it is going on destroying both. It is like whitewashing the tombs that they are creating?
Creating a public viewpoint that all those who are against you are negative or demeaning them to portray your deeds in good light seems to be the norm of the day. Let us beware of such tactics.
