It is highly unethical in the land of ethics, to impose forcefully anything by the ones in power and it tantamounts to autocracy and bad governance. It is sad to note that the ongoing MoI hype is given a communal colour by some egoists, promoters of a particular language in the name of imparting education and giving government grants to schools teaching in the said languages (Konkani and Marathi) at the primary level. If a third alien language (English) is used in the new academic year they will be demanding the resignation of the ministers and MLAs.
Politically speaking, Konkani is declared as the official language of the state of Goa and is included in the VIII schedule of the Constitution. It is the predominantly spoken language of around 90-95% of the populace of Niz Goenkars. How does Marathi come in the picture as the official language is anyone’s guess? Marathi is the recognised language of Maharashtra.
Now the protagonists of Marathi, by the fact of their sheer majority status, don’t want to be the losers and take a moral beating and get their ego hurt. What does it matter to them if our children study in Konkani, Marathi or English? Ultimately Marathi also becomes a foreign language as it is not the official language of Goa as some assume it to be. If one says that Goa has two official languages it is just nonsensical for a micro state. To conclude if the Marathi protagonists are so adamant in accepting primary education in English, let me ask them to impose a blanket ban on English medium of instruction in all the schools.
