MORE proof of intolerance

The Central Government is bracing with unprecedented protests, all over the country, against CAA, NCR & NPR and despite the arrogance of the Home Minister that there is no going back on them, there can be no doubt that the demonstrations have proved to be a thorn in Government flesh, which has also brought India down by 10 points among world democracies. However, we need to be thankful to the Central Government for having brought together, as never before, all the communities, which were always divided on some issue or other.
In Goa, the government after having faced massive protests, arranged for the congratulatory motion to be proposed. Even more interesting is that the Police, in act of abject servility, promptly registered a FIR on a complaint filed by one Emidio Pinho, against the Council of Social Justice and Peace and NCHRO for dragging children to the meeting organised by them in Margao on January 24 last, against CAA, NCR & NPR.
It is not known how the complainant proved that, children, if any, were there at the behest of the organisers. Did the children or their parents complain to the Child NGO that they were dragged there against their will? If not, how has the FIR been registered and that too in such haste, when the Police generally drags their feet to do it, except when dictated by their bosses? I have no doubt that this FIR will eventually be consigned to the waste bin, but the organisers will have to take recourse to advocates and incur unnecessary expenses on a frivolous complaint which is nothing new in today’s regimes.
It is a well known fact how efficient our Police are in registering FIRs and often Courts, which ought to pull the Police up for not doing their duty, merely instruct them to register them.
Even the case of rape of a minor in a school in Vasco has not been solved, even several years after it was committed. And yet the Police have the gumption of registering a FIR in such a frivolous case, obviously under instructions from their superiors, who surely panicked after such a massive turnout for the meeting.
Did the Police bother to find out whether the children were dragged or they were there of their own accord or brought or sent by their guardians? Is there a law which prohibits them from attending such meetings or is the Government trying to curb their freedom right from their tender age, as they are already doing with the vociferous opponents of this autocratic regime? Minors have been joining similar protests, all over the country.
The CM, who is also the Home Minister, may try to wriggle out of the situation by saying that he would let the Police do their job independently.
