NDA Govt tramples on Democratic values

The Narendra Modi-led NDA government has been high-handed throughout its governance since 2014 Lok Sabha elections probably in the hope that governance in India would take a turn for the better. But alas it has failed on all fronts. The demonetisation was a sudden attempt to curb black money but on the contrary the envisaged target was not achieved, but 105 people in India had to pay for with their lives as a result of that draconian measure that did not serve the purpose. The target of demonetisation could have been the opposition, since it is widely known that the NDA supporters especially in Gujarat had already been informed about its coming in advance. Few will dispute that demonetisation was a political tool against the opposition.

Another coercive measure was the devious decision by the government to use force and sleight of hand by instructing the Reserve Bank of India to make Aadhaar card mandatory for opening bank accounts and operating them. The Aadhaar card had sensitive and personal bio-metrics like iris scan and fingerprints that should under any circumstance not been allowed to be used for operating bank accounts. The intention of the government was to subjugate the people of India, and treating all as criminals. The imposition of GST initially was also met with widespread opposition by the businesses of all types with 5%, 12%, 18% and 28% taxes imposed becoming a burden on businesses both big and small worse affected being the micro sector. The original intention of the government was to tax at any cost. It took several later rejigs but by then the damage was done.

The NDA-government flouted all norms of decency by willfully subjecting the people of India to enhanced tax regime. The GST imposition led to several small businesses being unprofitable. Then came the CAA, NRC and NPR which was met with widespread and vociferous opposition in many States of India. Even these draconian regimes would have been imposed on the people of India but for the outbreak of the pandemic. The merger of public sector banks was another measure of the government to hide the fact that most banks in India run by the government had been bleeding of cash. Mergers were done to show that the merged entities were bankable but on the contrary the individual merged entities had two-digit NPAs which had led to contraction of the money in the public sector banks.

Now is the turn of the three farm laws that the NDA regime is trying to impose on the farmers against their will. The government is trying everything to divide the farmers and have even produced 2 lakh signatures of farmers as against 2 crore signatures that are going to be produced by the Congress to determine that the three laws should be repealed.

Another very devious exercise that the NDA have been playing with is the bringing down of democratically elected governments in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and earlier in Goa. Indians are to be blamed themselves for electing such government which tramples democratic values and personal freedoms. Why are the people of India playing to be tunes of the NDA?
