Though politics govern our lives in manifest ways, we cannot be immune from it. Each of us is conditioned by political events and happenings and based on that we form our understanding and perceptions. If daily mundane lives go for us well we side with the establishment, if to the contrary we criticize and link us to the opposition. As per Oxford Dictionary politics mean the activities concerned with governing a country or an area through a set of political beliefs. In sum politics is the greatest public service with a mission. It therefore becomes obligatory for politicians to rise above narrow personal and sectional interests and work for the maximum good for the many. When one sees ground realities whether in India or America (the two democracies) one will realise that the scenario is not at all rosy and exuding confidence and hope for the future. Modi’s popularity is on the ascendant in every part of the country but politicians across all political parties are becoming more arrogant after achieving power and public service lest said the better. Tragically we live in a world where politicians have shamed politics and all prefer to be called democrats. Our 784 MPs and 4114 MLAs must ponder how to use the much said word introspect whether contemporary politics has enlivened our lives. The mundane drudgery of the common person continues with all sorts of conflict in the air. Do we say hell to politics and politicians, certainly not. It is constitutional democracy which can work wonders provided our society provides good and honest individuals.
Notwithstanding bad social realities we on our own have to look within and be good and decent individuals. A collection of better individuals will promote a better society. This must start at homes for a good foundation inculcating the cherished values of life and adoption of modern values ought to promote gender justice, the sense of equality, justice, love and trust and the results can be very encouraging.
Let us unitedly heighten ourselves for exercise of freedoms, denied to us by our political managers and players. When society gets improved then only will good politics come. Never say no to politics and democracy. Of all the systems democracy is the best to forge equality, liberty and justice.
