Of bikinis and short skirts

Just when everyone thought that the bikini girls had won the battle, Major Sudin slowly got his army of reluctant housewives from Shiroda and Ponda ready for a counter attack.

Just when everyone thought that the bikini girls had won the battle, Major Sudin slowly got his army of reluctant housewives from Shiroda and Ponda ready for a counter attack. While we continue to make national and international news headlines for all the wrong reasons (thanks to our Ministers with archaic antiquated values), Talasha Prabhu donned the swimsuit and made Goa proud by being the fastest woman swimmer in the country. Now what does the PWD Minister think about Goa’s golden girl and her achievements? What kind of dress code would he prescribe for her in keeping with his idea of “our culture”? Cotton saree or silky salwars?
Once upon a time Goans enjoyed their siesta with doors and windows wide open. The doors were latched only at night and windows grills were not heard of. Neighbours, relatives, friends and foes could drop in and out unannounced as and when they wished. Despite this, robberies, thefts and rapes were very rare because the people were a virtuous and cultured lot. Then came men from the archaic world of Major Sudin and changed everything for good. As one of my facebook friend put it, these chaps come in lungis and dhotis to stay in Aunty`s outhouse as “Badekars”. Soon they start wearing Uncle’s T-Shirts and Jeans – NRI Uncle will be the last person to know. For these guys, an open door is a kind of invitation and the same holds true in the case of bikinis and short skirts. They are all conditioned to believe in the devils definition of virtue-insufficient temptation!
Seriously, most of the crimes against women can be prevented just by educating men like Major Sudin – never mind if the minister himself is refusing to learn.
The more archaic the society the more suppressed and oppressed the women folks are. A survey conducted on first time mothers-to-be in rural India revealed that almost all of them prayed for a male child. As the survey moved to more civilized parts of the globe the gender of the child became less and less relevant – all that the mothers-to-be wanted was a healthy child.
The PWD minister has been in politics and that too in positions of power for such a long time, how come it took him so long to discover that the root cause of all evil in the state are bikinis, short skirts and pubs? On one side the government is sending large delegations on foreign jaunts in the guise of promoting tourism and on the other side we have a minister who is doing a better job than ten Muthaliks put together to destroy Goa’s tourism industry and more importantly our unique all embracing social fabric. This man belongs to the same class of people who tried- albeit unsuccessfully- to turn Goa into a district of Maharashtra. If bikinis and short skirts are such a distraction for him, why doesn’t he just go there?
