In one stroke, they plan to raise the price of presently sold 50 gm pao from Rs.3 to Rs.5. They also plan to come out with extra small pao of 30 gm for Rs 3. The present pao being sold for Rs 3 is supposed to be of 50 gm and not 30 gm as wrongly reported by a section of the press.
What is the government doing about it? Does this decision have the sanction of the government? While we understand the plight of the bakery owners with the ever rising prices of raw materials, should not the government provide them subsidy to absorb the shock? Whatever happened to the former CM Parrikar’s decision of providing subsidy of Re1 per pao announced with much fanfare? Was it meant to be yet another U-turn to be added to the growing list of U-turns?
First it was the fish which went out of the reach of the common man, followed by dal and now vegetables not to mention of the humble tomato which is elevated to the status of apple by this government. What is the common man suppose to eat? Just the subsidized, inferior quality rice supplied through BPL cards, with plain curry? With Rs 50 a family could buy 10 bread with a packet of milk. If the bread prices increase, they will have to be satisfied with 10 breads and have tea without milk.
The plight of the common man is becoming indeed pathetic. Let the government be aware the common man is not looking towards schemes which are not enough to fill the stomach. He is looking for job and
affordable commodities to make ends meet, both of which, this government cannot provide.
BJP has proved once again that it is a government of the rich, for the rich and by the rich, when you see the sorry state of the common man in Goa. May God save the poor man.
