Once again the new academic year has just begun but Government Assistant Teachers who are on one post for almost 28 years (inspite of being Double Post-Graduates) are still not given justice. Their Senior Scale and Promotions are pending and God knows for what reasons. It looks like officers extension files are getting cleared faster than other Govt. employees’ pending files. Are these teachers not working hard to get good SSC results in their respective schools? Is the result in Govt high schools good only because of headmasters? Is he/she taking all the SSC subjects? There may be few who are not even teaching in SSC class. Some squeeze SSC subjects’ teachers to get good result when they themselves are not doing anything. Due respect goes to those headmasters who engage extra classes along with their SSC subjects’ teachers during vacation and even on Sundays.
If SSC results are bad all the subjects’ teachers get memos within no time but if it is good no one bothers to give even a letter/note of appreciation. Appreciation helps one to perform better and to continue with good work. But sorry to say punishment travels faster than the rewards and appreciation.
Govt Assistant Teachers are given step-motherly treatment with regard to promotion. If aided school Assistant. Teachers can get promotion directly as headmasters, why not the Govt Assistant Teachers? Why is this indifference when financial benefits are same? Govt Assistant Teachers efforts and dedication towards their weak students from rural areas is worth to be commended. Their students cannot afford to go for private tuitions but still these teachers manage to get good results even with weak students and repeaters from aided schools.
In Quepem taluka, Govt schools results are better than private/aided schools. Let’s not put all Govt teachers/schools in one category. There are some govt. school teachers who are hard working, efficient, dedicated and equally far better than aided school teachers. When these teachers do justice to their noble profession, why not solve their pending issues of Senior Scale and Promotions? Hope at least this academic year and before Sept 5, 2018, these teachers’ pending issues will be solved. Is it painful to give teachers what they deserve?
