It does feel safe seeing police around our area, protecting the buildings and houses due to the Ganesh festival. It’s a good gesture on the part of the Goa police as it does make us feel that we are taken care of specially during the time when the burglars are at their best hunt as most of the Hindu family houses are closed for almost a week. I would like to thank the police for helping the citizens during this crucial time of the year where many who live in
cities go to their ancestral houses to celebrate Ganesh festival. It does keep their mind free from tension, away from home so as to enjoy their festival together with their entire family at their ancestral home in a better way.
Frankly, being a police officer is literally quite a thankless joy. In times like the festivals of Ganesh, Diwali, Christmas and other important events happening that the cops work overtime and sometimes even risk their life. However, not only are police officers often taken for granted, many people are highly vocal about their dislike for cops. Instead when they do good work we need to vocally share gratitude to the police. We need to take time to recognize what a truly brave and dangerous job it is to be a police officer. It’s time we recognize how police officers are our everyday heroes. They serve and protect no matter the fear inside. They run towards danger when everyone else is running away. The most basic form of appreciation is by simply saying “thank you” to police officers when they do a good service.
What intrigues me most is that a large number of the police are Hindus where they would desire to take off to enjoy the Ganesh festival with their families, yet they are on duty. The vast majority of these officers are decent, hard-working, honest, law-abiding people, like we are supposed to be. Just because they wear a uniform, badge and pistol doesn’t make them super humans. They are no different than the rest of us, except they have chosen to dedicate their lives to protecting society. Once again a thanks to the police who are keeping an extra vigil on the citizens.
