Since 1961, we have gained freedom from the Portuguese rule but a lot of buildings constructed
during their reign are standing tall and in an excellent condition till date.
However on the other side, if we compare the quality of buildings built now, they somehow don’t last even a year.
The roads which are developed now and the roads developed by the earlier rulers, if we compare them ,we can see that the roads built just a few months ago have to undergo maintenance while the roads built ages ago are still in good condition.
There is a very simple Truth behind this. What is the Quality of work done?
The materials used for these constructions are of substandard quality and that is the reason why they don’t last long and again need maintenance. When a tender for a project is passed, we see
huge amount of money being invested. Yes a lot of money is invested but not for the quality of materials rather for some other purpose.
We use substandard materials and thus the construction which had to last longer doesn’t last even a year. We have so many students who graduate from the engineering department and till date there are so many unemployed youth.
Why don’t the officials use modern technology and modern minds for the development? Instead of spending huge amounts of money on maintenance, let us make the foundation strong. We have many bridges, buildings and churches in Goa which were built 400 years ago and till today they are in good condition with very little maintenance work to be done.
Maybe the quality of work done then was better as compared to the work done now. We need to use good quality materials and thus lead to better construction work in the future.
Moreover use good quality materials and employ engineers from our state, the younger generation along with the guidance of experts to lead to the development of the state of Goa.
With respect to the maintenance of roads , we can use proper signals on the road to avoid accidents and loss of our dear ones. Use of barricades at certain places can be beneficial.
Apart from this traffic safety cones, road reflectors, rumblers, speed breakers can be used to avoid accidents.
We need to analyse a particular place, check for the possible solutions and use these materials. We need to make sure every ride or a journey is a safe journey and not our last journey. Installation of cameras on the national highway can help us catch hold of those violating traffic signals. If we all work together, I think we can truly lead to the development of our state.
