In a new initiative to reach out to maximum of the population Prime Minister Narendra Modi connected with people over radio with the program ‘mann ki baat’ giving a pep talk on shedding despondency and use of skills for the country’s betterment and prosperity. After addressing the children of the country on Teacher’s Day through the medium of the television the prime minister has now used the medium of the radio to reach to the poor people of the country living in the remote villages who cannot afford to own a television set.
It must be said the Modi is trying every means to connect to the people of the country. It is reported that India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru would frequently talk to the citizens of the country through the radio. It is understood that Presidents of United States have the practice of delivering weekly radio addresses, a practice which was started by Franklin D Roosevelt.
Modi has said that he will talk to the people of India through the medium of the radio on at least some Sundays. This is indeed a refreshing change. It must be said that Modi also desires to involve the countrymen in the development of the country. This was evident by the Swachh Bharat campaign wherein every Indian was asked to clean up the surrounding, an appeal which got an overwhelming response from the populace. Indeed this is Prime Minister Modi’s unique style of functioning which in the long run will achieve rich dividends as it will imbibe in the citizens a sense of patriotism and the desire to do something for the country as an individual. People will now feel connected to the political leadership of the country. It is pertinent to note that a pledge was taken all across the country after reading the Prime Minister’s message before the start of the Swachh Bharat campaign.
Taking a pledge together unites the people of the country and gives the feeling of oneness and of belonging. The successful mission to Mars by the Indian scientists has given Indians a sense of pride, self-respect and dignity in the eyes of the world. Indeed Prime Minister Modi’s intention is to take along the 125 crore people of the country as we march towards progress. It is not only the people of the country that Modi is reaching out to, but to all Indians living in various countries across the globe as was evident from his speech at Madison Square Garden.
