Thousands of people participated in a massive rally held at Panjim recently to oppose the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) along with National Register for Citizens (NRC), and National Population Register (NPR). They finally took a strong resolution stating that “We the people gathered here organised by Goa Alliance against CAA/NRC-NPR at Azad Maidan resolve to ensure that our constitution and our laws shall always be bound and continue to be bound on principles of justice, equality, secularism, socialism and therefore we are against any form of discrimination directly or indirectly on ground of religion, caste, gender, class, occupation, etc”.
People across India have also been taking part in similar huge rallies and rightly protesting, especially against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) as the same has been mischievously designed to grant Indian citizenship only for Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Christians, Parsees & Jains by excluding Muslims from neighbouring Pakistan, Bangladesh & Afghanistan who have entered this country on or before December 31, 2014 and who are facing religious persecutions. Of course, the excuse that the government at the centre has been still giving for excluding Muslims from giving citizenships through the said CAA exercise is that they don’t face persecutions in Islamic countries. today, (forget minorities) when Dalit-Hindus can face persecutions in a secular country like India then why not Muslims in fundamentalist Islamic countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan? Our Indian Constitution does not discriminate people based on religion but guarantees all equal rights and allows everyone to live like free-born citizens without discriminating anymore based on caste, creed and religion.
Unfortunately, the current government at the Centre seems to be bent on rewriting its own new constitution and destroying the soul of India by unleashing such mindless stupid exercises like CAA, NRC, NPR, etc, just to hide from all its own major failures. Yes, a government which has practically destroyed the economy, which has failed in generating employment, failed in ensuring law & order and which has failed in providing justice to rape victims seem to be currently bent on distracting the people of this country by forcibly unleashing such divisive exercises throughout India.
I therefore think that people of this country should continue opposing the CAA, NRC, NPR in one loud voice as the BJP somehow want to unleash these divisive legislations just to identify the religion/caste of every living person in our country to break the Indian-unity and to officially promote communal politics for their own political survival in the long run. Those who sow the seeds of hatred, who fight to turn their own minorities living in this country as third class citizens should not be allowed to grant Indian citizenship for the minorities from neighbouring Islamic countries by keeping Muslims out from this exercise and also to re-verify the past records of our great-ancestors to give their own new certificates of our citizenships in India by mischievously rejecting our documents entirely based on caste, creed/religion and on flimsy excuses/reasons. Long live Secular India and humanity.
