Rejoicing for BJP, retrospection for Congress

The BJP has knocked out the Congress from it’s bastions as the Modi wave has placed the party on the brink of forming the government in Maharashtra while it has stormed to power on it’s own in Haryana.

Here the decision of the party to fight the elections on its own seems to have paid rich dividends as the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra and the Haryana Janhit Congress in Haryana decided to part ways with the BJP. It is pertinent to note that in both the states the BJP did not project the potential Chief Minister.
Hence, it goes without saying that the Modi wave has swept the results in the party’s favour in both the states. His message of development and the fight against corruption has caught the imagination of the masses. Narendra Modi has addressed more than double the number of election rallies in both the states as compared to that addressed by Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi put together.
This goes to show the commitment shown by the BJP leadership as compared to that of the Congress. Is the Congress party a sinking ship? The Congress has finished in third place in Maharashtra behind the Shiva Sena. So, the 129-year grand-old Congress does not find a role to play even as a responsible opposition party.
It seems that the Congress had given up even before the elections commenced. It must be said that the country needs a strong opposition at both the Centre as well as the states.
At present, the Congress party with poor showing in the elections is not in a position to play this vital role in the democratic set-up. The party has to build up right from scratch. It may be recalled that when the BJP came on the national scene it had won only two seats.
But over the years out of sheer discipline and hard work the BJP has grown into a main party in the country. The Congress needs to do the same. In Goa too, the Congress under the leadership of Luizinho Faleiro has to build up right from scratch if it desires to make a comeback in the State. All in all the results in the two states of Maharashtra and Haryana has established Narendra Modi truly as a leader who has been accepted by the entire nation.
