The rape of a 6-year-old girl in a high profile Vibgyor School in Bangalore has shaken the nation. The city in one voice has condemned the reprehensible act and voiced concern over the slackness of the management in trying to hush up the case and the initial sloppiness of the police in nabbing the culprit.
What was more shocking was the revelation made by the investigating agency after the arrest of a skating tutor of the said school, whose laptop had material on the school girls being raped. Irrespective of whether the skating tutor is the one who was involved in the contemptible crime, it has brought to the fore the depravity of the mind of the said person. Can such a person be fit enough to tutor the young minds who are being left to the care of such people by the parents?
It is deplorable that rapes have been going on unabatedly all over the country. But what is attitude of our politicians and other higher-ups in this turmoil. When this matter was being debated in the Karnataka assembly the Chief Minister was caught on camera taking a nap. Later on when he was asked what is the progress made by the police in the rape case, he nonchalantly reacted whether the reporters do not have anything else to discuss other than the said child rape case. That shows the irresponsible nature of the Chief Minister.
It is unfortunate that people in power are casual on this burning issue plaguing the nation. Recently the UP governor went on record articulating that even if the entire world’s police force was to be put on duty, the rapes may not be prevented, unless God came down from heaven. Reckless statements of this type can only encourage the rapists.
In this context it is fitting to put forth how a lady social activist had vehemently opposed this view during a debate on the subject in a popular TV channel that if such was the case then 6-7 year old girls would not have been raped. It is time that people from every section of society arise from slumbers and condemn rapes without giving meaningless justifications.
