Save Goenkarponn: A Myth

A lot of noise and hype is generated by some Goan politicians in the name of Goenkarponn. Who are the culprits that have brought our state of Goa to such a mess that we are in today? No doubt, each and every member who resides in Goa has expressed his / her love to the concept of Goenkarponn.

A lot of noise and hype is generated by some Goan politicians in the name of Goenkarponn. Who are the culprits that have brought our state of Goa to such a mess that we are in today? No doubt, each and every member who resides in Goa has expressed his / her love to the concept of Goenkarponn.
Goans have a long history of migration within and outside India. So, what actually happens when one decides to migrate and settle in some other state of India or for that matter outside India. A very gloomy situation arises when one actually leaves his birth place and house.
There is likely disconnection after few years within the family members who still continue to reside in Goa. So, in all probability the family members who happen to live in Goa become the present caretakers of the immovable properties left by the Goans who have migrated. The temptation to sell off these immovable properties to real estate agents and builders by the actual landowners or the present caretakers becomes a reality in order to avoid possible manipulation at a later date.
There are some Goan landowners who owned vast lands in Goa, have sold off their land to outsiders at a very high price. Such landowners don’t have any right to preach others to protect Goa. Take for example, the entire coastal properties were once owned exclusively by Goans. Who have sold to whom is known and nothing can be done.
There are other Goans who due to abstract financial misery have sold or traded their immovable assets to builders. In doing so, such Goans do not have any right to cry about Goa loss of identity.
Then, there are greedy politicians who have amassed huge ill-gotten wealth and have invested considerably in real estate in Goa. These politicians have benami dealings and they too have no authority to speak about Goenkarponn.
The only remaining true loving Goans are tribals, tenants and mundkars of Goa. These Goans have still retained and preserved their identity and culture of Goa. What is essential is to protect these people from exploitation from greedy land sharks.
Finally, Goenkarponn is non-existing and in theory only.  The only solace is to sell any possible remaining immovable properties to Goans only, even if it is at a lesser price.
Let me quote the statement of Madam Mayawati the BSP leader, the love for Dalits by certain party was compared to a rat going on a pilgrimage after eating 100 rats. The same situation applies to some of our present Goan politicians and other propagandists of Goenkarponn.
