Select candidates on merit

Recently the Power Minister declared that 70 Junior Engineers and 600 linesmen would be recruited in the Electricity Department for dealing with the present shortage of staff and providing improved service to general public.
In this context it is absolutely necessary that the candidates for above mentioned posts are selected on merit. It has become a common practice for politicians to prepare a list of candidates of their choice and the entire process of selection seems to be based solely on influence. One’s educational qualification, work experience, efficiency at work do not seem to receive any consideration. This only means that the really deserving candidates fail to get the concerned government job because they lack influence.
It is equally true that candidates selected on the basis of influence/ favouritism are unable to provide efficient service to public visiting the concerned government departments on regular basis. Selecting candidates on influential basis has become the order of the day and efficient candidates receive a serious blow, thereby remaining the ultimate sufferers. Being totally helpless, they have no other alternative but to take up jobs in private firms fetching meager salaries.
I hope selection for above posts would  be conducted exclusively on merit so that efficient candidates receive the much coveted justice. Discrimination/ favouritism of any sort should be done away with and one’s efficiency should be stressed during selection.
Such a transparent approach would indeed assure relief and justice to efficient candidates and boost their morale. It is equally important that the notion of ‘one government job per family’ receive its due respect. The present practice of providing govt. jobs for four to five persons from one family should be stopped once and for all. Every person should get an equal opportunity to compete for the govt. job. No doubt, the ‘Aam Admi’ visiting govt. offices for their official work should receive prompt and efficient service at all times.
