Well, today when even top doctors cannot give 100% health fitness certificates/reports of living human beings based on medical studies, how can Mr Dhavalikar display so much of over-confidence and say that all bridges which are operational in Goa are very much safe for the commuters based on internal audit reports of his PWD department?
It should be noted that the former Congress regime which was in power in the early eighties also used to display similar over-confidence of the old Mandovi Bridge across the river despite knowing full well that its condition had totally deteriorated but finally what happened? The said old Mandovi Bridge finally went on to collapse in broad daylight on a Saturday morning somewhere in 1986 puttying everyone into hardships as there was no other parallel bridge over the same river during that time.
Today, the whole world knows that the condition of the Zuari Bridge is completely bad but the government of the day instead of starting the construction of a new Zuari Bridge on top priority basis is still seen announcing only dates of the same for political gains.
God forbid, if the current Zuari Bridge collapses one fine day then people from North and South Goa will definitely suffer from a lot of hardships as most of them will have a tough time even travelling to the Dabolim Airport, GMC hospital, etc.
I therefore think that the government of the day should stop playing dirty politics, take things very seriously and start constructing a new Zuari Bridge immediately before a major disaster indeed finally strikes over the said river causing inconvenience for people of whole Goa in the coming months/years.
