A very happy Teachers’ Day to all the devoted and dedicated teachers! Teachers’ Day is celebrated to express our love, concern and gratitude to teachers. Do some teachers really deserve it?
As teachers let us do little introspection on ourselves on this great day. Let us ask our conscience if we are doing justice to our noble profession. If there are some pitfalls in our teaching career and if we are lagging behind in some aspects or areas of teaching, let us try to rectify them and try to improve our teaching process to improve the quality of education in Goa which is drastically gone down for the various valid reasons known to us. One main factor is wrong entry of circumstances made teachers in the educational field.
Just ponder over these few aspects in our day to day teaching process:
Are you a Born Teacher or a Made Teacher? Born Teachers devote themselves dedicatedly for the student community. They try their level best to mould their students and go down to their level of teaching process. They put in extra efforts and devote more time for the weaker section of students. They try to improve their teaching methods as per the level of students and are always eager to do extra-ordinary things to improve the standard /level of their students. Born Teachers are ready to devote their precious time even when they are on leave or during holidays. They even take extra classes on Sundays. They are ready to adjust their privat life schedule for the benefit of their students. They work silently and at times no one recognizes the good work they do.
Some of these highly qualified teachers are stuck on one post for more than 28 years without even one promotion but still they teach with same zeal and dedication.
Whereas Made Teachers are those teachers who just entered the teaching profession because it is half day job or because they failed in other career and when there was no other option left for them. Circumstances made them to enter teaching profession. They work only for salary. Their entry to school and in their classrooms is always late but exit from school is quick. Some Made Teachers are highly qualified but in teaching they are zero. They may have vast knowledge but they fail miserably to impart it to their students. Their teaching is very monotonous and dim. When these teachers quality and attitude is so bad, how do you expect quality of education to improve? Because of these few circumstances Made Teachers, the respect for dedicated and devoted teachers is also declining.
Gone are the days when teachers were given due respect in the society and when teachers issues were promptly solved. But nowadays more respect is showered on corrupt officials and politicians. We must not forget that Teachers are not handling Lifeless Files but innocent children who are future citizens of our country. Any form of injustice or harassment to teachers will indirectly affect their teaching and their students. Has corruption entered in the field of education?
