It is with a sense of déjà vu and ennui that the people of Goa are subjected to yet another assault on their sensibilities in the form of this morbid soap opera courtesy CBI regarding Agnelo Fernandes great passport mystery.
It must be said unequivocally that under the stewardship of Agnelo the passport office efficiency has gone up several notches and the work there gets done like a breeze.
But what is galling to the public is this relentless shaming of Agnelo by the CBI.
If he is involved in any criminal activities the CBI should clearly spell it out and if prima facie guilty take him to the cleaners.
But to book him for some bottles of alcohol that some grateful boys from Swindon or wherever may have given him is bizzare to say the least.
At this rate every Goan couple celebrating a wedding or function and have a stock of liquor should be cooling their heels in jail no?
And has the CBI done due diligence in the matter?? Have they searched for two extra kgs of beef in Agnelo’s refrigerator or maybe his wife was eating fish when the Jains had their festival or whatever. Or worse maybe his son was reading Kalburgis works? Sacrilege!
Maybe the whole family is fit for the gallows.
The CBI can be so brazen that Teesta Setalvad drinking wine can be construed an anti-national act.
This arbitrary Gestapo tactics of the BJP government are truly becoming despicable.
Revenge, arrogance, victimisation. These will be the new by words for democracy in India.
