Think of future and bury the past

J R Serrao

Dragging on the past, spoils present and ruins future. Dragging past by the political leaders and especially those in power do not give any credibility. A leader can be anyone but not the Statesman. The tall speeches become meaningless once you start digging the past. The leaders must not turn so low in life to attain power. Religion only creates barriers for the prosperity. Even Mughal Empire collapsed on account of the fanaticism of Aurangzeb. With his death, the Mughal Empire started disintegrating and finally came to an end. The great Mughal Emperor Akbar is considered the most liberal and secular man and laid a strong foundation of Mughal Empire.

This establishes the fact that fanaticism has no place in the Society. It may look good but has its own darkness and finally the darkness leads nowhere.

Europe was devastated during the Second World War. The Europeans never dragged on about the past and they sat how to build the future when the Europe was in ruins. People were hungry, no job, no employment; they were struggling to make both ends meet. In his famous speech, Sir Winston Churchill said `I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat`, which inspired English people. Though Great Britain won the World War-II with heavy costs, they did not drag on the past and blame anyone but overcame the devastation and Europe is a shining example of progress and development.

In the month of August 1945, Japan faced two atom bombs: dropped on prominent cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki wherein millions lost their lives, but they never blamed anyone and dragged on the past, but build the nation which is evident now. Japanese are still facing the radiation of atom bombs but they built immunity to overcome the same.

Here in India, we find only matter of past and blame them. We cannot turn the clock back whatever may be the reasons, whatever may be the circumstances but we have to accept and march forward. Whether Goa would have been liberated earlier or not or blame the earlier leaders make no sense at present. Whether imposition of Emergency was right or wrong it makes no sense to discuss and waste time over that but the Leaders have to get together to build the Nation.

If and buts are too small words but dangerous in English vocabulary. If India was not partitioned it would have been a huge sub-continent. If Goa was liberated earlier what would have happened is a matter of history. Whether the leaders then were responsible or not is altogether another matter of discussion, which makes no sense.

Culture and civilisations may be anathema to each other. Culture is one thing and civilisation is another. If we start thinking of past, culture, etc, this Great Nation will remain where it is. We have to think in different manner.

We must all consider that we are human beings. Being human is important. No religion is greater than humanity. All religion give life span to human beings to live on this planet for limited time and the journey comes to an end. So let us think of future and bury the past.
