TIME TO PRIORITISE MENTAL HEALTH

Mental Health is something that is receiving increased attention recently.

When we talk about our mental health it’s not easy for anybody to prioritise themselves right away, because somewhere we are conditioned to keep ourselves last, so that it shows we care for others. My question is ‘The way we prioritise everything else why can’t we prioritise ourselves?’

Mental health should be taken care of without you reaching into an alarming condition or burnout or fatigue.

“Burnout is a state of emotional, physical and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. It occurs when you feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unable to meet constant demands,” states a report.

In the times that we are in hustling and trying to do something for ourselves, we often forget how we are feeling from within. There is cure for every physical issue from awareness to medical aid and acceptance, but why there is no acceptance about your mental health?

It’s not only when you have a clinically diagnosed symptoms, but it also includes about how you are feeling on a particular day when something goes wrong badly or you had a bad day at office. We often sideline this, searching for a temporary solution to the uneasiness in the chest that occurs with it. We try sleeping and waking up to the same anxiety or overthinking about it constantly.

Instead, try sitting alone and analysing ‘why are you feeling the way you are feeling about it?’ Write it down or talk to a professional therapist who will guide you if you are feeling something way too constant and you don’t know what to do about it.

To know that you need to pay attention to yourself, your first sign would be that you are living a monotonous life, where there is nothing new that you are doing apart from the year-long regular routine. That’s when you realise that you need to recharge and bounce back. The newness in your routine also helps to boost your productivity.

For beginners, you can start with giving five minutes for yourself, where you can just enjoy your cup of tea sitting watching the rain from your balcony, with some music. You can slowly start increasing your time with some mindful activity where you focus on the present moment. Try some breathing exercises or working out so that you release sweat from your body – swimming, skipping or cycling, walking in the park for some fresh air in the evening are excellent rejuvenators.

For working people it might be little difficult to prioritise themselves, but talking to your go-to person for one hour, at least twice a week, can help. Doing whatever that makes your soul alive should allow you to rejuvenate. Weekends can play a huge role for those who don’t get time during week days.

Emotional fatigue is difficult to understand. In emotional fatigue people lack motivation to do anything. Mental health comprises physical, emotional and other aspects of your well-being and should be properly looked after for your overall health. No one is going to give you time to prioritise yourself, you need to take out time for it. Remember, if you are happy from within, others will be happy around you!
