Some years back when I was working for an MNC I was posted to United States of America I admired the way the traffic moved on the roads. Everyone who moved on the road either on two-wheeler, bus, car, or pedestrian knew one thing and that is to obey traffic rules. Roads are smooth and they last for more than fifteen to twenty years. If it is a main road or highway vehicles moved at hundred miles per hour and there are no traffic lights to stop you. Everyone has to keep to his or her lane and if you want to exit there is a sign board giving the name of the destination and road is marked with exit sign. You just cannot turn your car in any lane or stop in the middle of the road.
If you are going on any other road which is not a highway there are traffic signals. Even if there is no car coming from the opposite side still vehicles will stop till the lights change. Even a pedestrian has to follow the rules. He or she has to give signal by pressing a signal button and wait till the signal turns green and then cross the road. Why can’t there be some discipline on roads in Goa!
Here our roads are not marked with sign board and when someone wants to turn right he just turns and then a line of vehicles have to stop till our prince moves right and then some two wheelers want to go desperately and so he will swing to the left and move to the right and block the road and then wait till some miracle happens.
Can someone find a solution to this? Lets start at home. Parents avoid giving two-wheelers to your children going to school or higher secondary. Avoid giving them mobiles because the way the mobiles are used it is a curse. Someone going to school or to work is seen walking on the road with mobile in hand and firmly engrossed in reading and sending messages that he or she does not pay attention to moving vehicles or when crossing the road and sometimes even while climbing the steps.
So let us train our children at home.
