The PM Mr. David Cameroon has said in his speech that the circumstances of EU citizens working in UK won’t change immediately. In fact some news reports from UK suggest that the Brexit (leave) camp might not impose any restriction on free movement of labor to UK from EU countries as is existing.
Instead of being envious of the Goans working in UK, who have improved their standard of living by sending back money to Goa, the rich and powerful class of Goa should become humble and work for the upliftment of all fellow Goans still living in Goa, so that they don’t have to migrate. They should revise the policies to make affordable higher education to all Goans. The employment policies should be such that there is a minimum difference in incomes of all types of jobs in Goa.
The circumstances of many Goans have not changed even after 50 years of liberation. Take a common case of a say a receptionist employed with a doctor. There is wide difference in income of a receptionist and the doctor. Most doctors can afford high standards of living due to high incomes. A receptionist in most cases cannot afford higher education. Also because of the meager income, the standard of living is low. Thus to improve standard of living the receptionist is forced to migrate to work in UK. In most cases the earnings of the migrated receptionist makes it possible to have a decent living in Goa like the doctor. This would not have been possible by working in Goa with the doctor.
The present policies are widening the gap between rich and poor. These very people who appear to be happy about the Brexit results have not taken drastic steps to reduce the gap. This is causing rise in migration to greener pastures. The rich and powerful class who control the affairs in Goa should immediately sit together and change the policies so as to achieve economic equality.
