Friends and charitable, countrymen; lend me your ears. I write this to tell all free-thinking voters, about politicians and their promises; as voting days are coming closer and closer and good old beggars will soon be at our doors pleading to select and elect them.
Some politicians are meant only to win the elections; while others to be in the opposition; still others to make a U turn to their promises after elections. These men’s men, enter the portals of politics for power, position, prestige, privilege and for amassing wealth without any moral. They opt for politics because it is the fastest and the easiest path of prosperity to become a crorepati in the shortest possible time.
But a few enter politics to rule as per the wishes of the people. These few are genuinely patriotic, self sacrificing and have the inner drive to plunge into affairs of the State because they are fired up with a vision to work for the poor, downtrodden, the exploited and neglected brethren.
Various political parties come out with promises during election time; to give not only continuous electricity, never dehydrated, dried out water taps and to give jobs for the jobless. They even promise the moon, the sun and the entire zodiac as well. They promise to give anything like the Alladin’s magic lamp. Many innocent men of ‘Sobit Sundor Goem’ believe in such promises of the politicians.
Lord, give us men who will not be involved in scams. Give us men who will not divide us — on the basis of caste, class or religion. Give us men who uphold the values of truth and justice. Give us men who have the ability to bring back the lost paradise of Goa which our freedom fathers dreamt for us. Give us custodians of morality who protect Goa’s legacy. Give us men who will not dodge laws, bend them, break them, and even mould them to their benefits. Lord, keep us away from evil minds; far away from communal minds, at a distance from diseased minds which end up with diseased politics with evil actions, sooner or later. Give us men who will make Goa safe for our children and children’s children so that they may have a future to move without the fear of movement.
Vote is the most powerful weapon in the hands of citizens. It can make or break a politician, a political party and bring about a complete change in the government and governance.
So, vote like a king to select servant at the coming elections. Vote for Goan culture and heritage for the future of Goan generation. Vote for clean politician who can clean our beaches from crimes that are committed by blameless culprits. Vote against politicians whose hobby is to destroy our ecology and cut hills to raise concrete jungles in fields. Vote for “achhe din” for our children and to grow in a healthier environment.
May, the bright breeze blow in the Goan Assembly of 2022 which is still blind in the womb; may the white foam fly from the Arabian Sea and its waves lap our shores and clean our beaches from tar balls; may true leaders prove themselves by their qualities.
