The strong protests after the dastardly crime on tiny humans in Kathua and Unnao shows anguish and need to end the crimes.
Yet, we cannot forget that similar protests were held before with no effect: the crimes continue.
What we need to do is first and foremost protest the law enforcers. In Delhi alone 4000 kids go missing every year resulting in around 40000 all over India! Do we protest this? If you are in Delhi, read the papers. The last time I read ads. on a single daily asking for information on missing children: gone missing 3 years back! Why do we not protest this? By not doing so, we are condemning how many children to what unimaginable fates by saying it is not humanly possible to stop this? Are mere candle processions for a few hours after a crime appeasing our conscience?
We do not see our ‘Gods’ of cricket and movies ever take this up. We hear about their ‘charity’ works but nothing on this front.
Can we protest this? Can we channel all energies towards missing children? Can we say we will stop viewing IPL and movies till the same is ended? Or what other ‘entertainment’ can we give up till the same is ended?
Sadly, in Goa alone we are not trying to stem the rise in kidnappings. The Police here are on perennial holidays: we hear people saying they will fight for the Police rights due to their poor working conditions. This is an eye opener. We have seen the same Police literally go berserk on innocent protestor; we see them unable to stop prostitution run by the same culprits, hob knobbing with them and drug dealers!
Just this week, 6 children were rescued in Vasco where they were held by a woman and even tortured. What happened? Who were these children? No one knows; no one cares. We are not consistent in what we want to achieve or on how to achieve. How many more such cases go un detected? In Vasco, there was a case of a baby having been sold. Do we demand action from the Police? We do not demand action from those in power.
All this boils down to a single denomination: corruption. The Government will not say this because they came to power on this plank-zero corruption. But all this happens only because there is no law, because we have elected people who divert our attention to non-issues like beef ban, fictitious religious conversions, etc. We get a Government we elect.
We need to change our methods of protest.
