For the last couple of years, we’ve been watching the political scenario in Goa. Politicians were seen at our door with folded hands and smile, promised to work in our interests with promises to lure us at election time. In good faith we did vote them to power expecting our expectations to be met, our wishes to come true and life to be happy. But none of these happened, once in power we heard their stories in typical political style: We shall look into the matter, it will take some time; nothing to worry, we are sorting out the problem.
Zero-tolerance to corruption has become a mirage if not myth. Casinos are earning revenue for the government, generating employment, who will want them out. Once in power, the elected representatives tend to change their views with the change of time and opportunity. In the meantime Goa continues to be on a spree of destruction loosing the sheen of nature’s splendor bestowed upon her.
Nothing much has changed their nature, politicians talk the same language today, but with a twist of ‘Mahagatbandhan.’ Very strange! A term which according to Hindi marriage tradition means a couple is united together for eternity by marriage is now roped into politics for the purpose of grand alliance to fight elections. Someone came out with the novel mahagatbandhan idea and now the cacophony is growing. However, in their behaviour and talk, humility and unanimity of mind are missing. It is obvious therefore, once they come to power they will indulge themselves in cock-a-doodle fights aiming for the moon if not the sky. Right now their fate is in imbalance as much as they remain divided.
Who then will save Goa. The present electorate is literate. They shouldn’t make the same mistake made in the past voting the politicians on the promises of the party manifesto. The present generation belongs to the digital age, mind boggling technological marvels. Some are professionals in their own fields and can contribute much to make Goa a modern habitat of joyful existence for the citizens to live respectfully and in dignity. You, the youth are the force to change the face of Goa. In 2017 you have to decide and make the choice: Is it the same old begging bowl or a new face of Goa and Goans of repute and good governance the world will admire. Our ancestors left behind their inheritance that we may enjoy better days of our time. What will you leave for posterity to remember you with gratitude.
