According to the draft regional plan-2021 policy document of the task force for regional plan for Goa-2021(refer page XIV), the Government has decided to locate the new international airport for transporting cargo and passengers at Mopa which has a catchment that extends into Southern Maharashtra and the northern and western regions of Karnataka. In the process, Dabolim will serve as a supportive airport for transportation of passengers as also some cargo.
Mopa has prospects of being developed on PPP basis with easy access by road and rail. Access by water can be facilitated through the operation of hydrofoil services along the coast. This would be particularly attractive for tourists who will be easily linked to the coastal districts. Dedicated export-based industries and convention /tourism hubs can be planned around the new international airport.
1. Was the above information (for promoting Mopa international airport for requirements of neighboring states) included in draft regional plan for Goa- 2021 policy document with the knowledge of all the task force members?
2. From which business association (or chamber of commerce & industry?) document did the task force for draft regional plan for Goa-2021 get the above information for promoting Mopa international airport for the requirements of neighbouring states?
3. The land-use for Mopa International Airport was shown in the regional plan for Goa-2021 village maps of Pernem Taluka. Have the Mopa International Airport layout plans been approved? Without the approved airport master plan, the Mopa Airport project will end up as a massive real estate development project by destroying the eco-sensitive areas & village settlements shown in the draft regional plan for Goa-2021 village maps of Pernem Taluka. Can we allow such unsustainable development?
4. There is only a two page Information Memorandum (page 111 & page 112) in the RFQ document for Mopa International airport. Why is there no detailed information memorandum for Mopa International Airport? The notified Regional Plan for Goa RPG-2021 is deliberately kept in a state of uncertainty. Under such circumstances, can the draft regional plan- 2021 policy document of the task force for regional plan for Goa-2021 be allowed to promote Mopa International Airport for the requirements of neighboring states through hidden plans?
