The body-swap fiasco that occurred at the GMC has raised a furore of epic proportions….And rightly so!
The family of the deceased youngster was already reeling from the shock of losing him to an untimely death; and suddenly they get slammed by the news that the boy’s body was ‘accidently’ disposed off under dubious circumstances.
It is like getting knocked down by a car, and when you struggle to get up, Bam! you get hit by a speeding bus!
One can only imagine the trauma that the parents of the boy and other loved ones are going through right now.
The social media, newsprint, and television are in absolute overdrive. And a million different reactions are surfacing. While there are a lot of speculations about what truly happened, it would be incorrect to openly spread any propaganda without having any corroborated evidence.
Reading some posts on the social media yesterday, it displays how warped some minds are. People are trying to push their ulterior political agendas by using this unfortunate incident. Simply yelling from the rooftops won’t help.
I have seen people just blindly propagating silly things without thinking. Ridiculous solutions like blocking the National Highway have been suggested. Seriously?! What has happened is shocking! But let’s not indulge in unreal reactions that make no sense, and let’s not take undue advantage of this in order to propagate our political and/or communal views.
The resignation of the Health Minister has to be demanded; but not as yet! The permanent dismissal of the GMC staff has to also be demanded; but again, not as yet!
Whether we like it or not, we will have to admit that what had happened is irreversible, and no matter what happens, Januz will neither come to life, nor will his corpse be recovered. The sooner we accept that, the sooner will his family get closure to this unfortunate incident.
We should then systematically proceed in demanding a thorough probe into the chain of events that led to the cremation of the boy’s body. Once that is obtained, in writing and by way of public admittance by those responsible, an apology will have to be furnished.
This is the stage where the resignations and dismissals and the suspensions should happen. Publicly! For everyone to see! So that everybody pays heed!
Our aim today should be two-fold: firstly to achieve closure and justice to the body-swap fiasco, and secondly, to make sure that such disasters never befall again. The trick here is to understand that what lies in front of us is very tricky by itself. With the players involved having possibly deep connections in the legal and political system, getting justice and closure will be a long and should I say, an arduous process.
But let is keep in mind that this would require most of our energies. We are running the Marathon, and not a 100-metre Sprint!
