Hearty congrats to all of those social activists who, being tired of fighting the corrupt governments all along, have now come forward under a common banner to work selflessly to clean up Goa without the ‘broom’, so to say, and thus keep Goa safe for the future generations. At last, the constructive “thought process” of those few of us who initiated the new Social Movement has borne fruit. However, those now “United for Mother Goa”, have a long way to go. Hopefully, the course of action will next be charted out keeping in mind what Claude Alvares, in his address to the Press has convincingly stated: “We will try and be the conscience and say what we like and what we don’t like, in order that Goa survives”.
Wise voters in Goa, all along, have been looking to AAP but only to feel disappointed, seeing that on pertinent “issues that are close to the people’s heart, they have no opinion. On MoI, they have no opinion, on mining they have no opinion”, as tangibly stated by Claude Alvares. So also, on the Regional Plan, they have no opinion. On the Mopa and Dabolim Airports, they have no opinion. On the Special Status for Goa, they have no opinion. On casinos and builders’ lobby, they are silent, as well, and that to our consternation or utter dismay.
Nonetheless, Claude Alvares feels: “… if there was a choice only between the three (Congress, BJP and AAP), he would go with AAP”. This has been the valid view of other social activists, as well. And, as a mere but astute Goan voter, I am of the frank opinion, that along with Claude Alvares, the majority of the disillusioned Goan voters would be willing to go with AAP. But, the efforts to convince the AAP leadership in Goa by the few of us who initiated the social movement, borne no fruit, thus far. As a consequence: “Goenchea Lokancho Awaaz”; not with the intention of adding another Regional political party but to wake up the AAP leadership and their dummy supporters in Goa. Even otherwise, intelligent Goans have no option but to support and elect honest and sincere Independent candidates at the elections 2017.
Will the AAP leadership in Goa/Delhi read the warning on the wall and listen to the legitimate concerns expressed by the hurting Goans? Or, will they merely boast on their Delhi success? As otherwise, social activists “United for Mother Goa” will not keep aloof, any more, but heed “Goenchea Lokancho Awaz”, and bring in Independent candidates with a Ccear and clean conscience, mostly from among the proactive social activists, who do not belong to the corrupt political parties. I am of the firm opinion these sincere and honest candidates will win the hearts of the intelligent voters to get elected to form the next Government in Goa in spite of the dumb voters doing their best to bring to power dumb and hardened politicians.
