I have noticed an enormous difference in growth dynamics, when there are ideas and initiatives to put them into practice, or it reins in an attitude of letting go. A country with a high density of people with initiative pushes it into situations that improve the economic environment, scientific and technical knowledge acquired with some research, and the cultural environment associated with heritage, climate and traditions.
In emigrant countries, one usually finds more initiative, as migrating people means a specific dose of it, leading to rapid developments, partly due to more significant freedom, without adhering to certain clichés. These countries appear to have higher growth rates than others, which are more stable, with lower incidence of emigration.
What is Initiative? It is a personal behaviour to start something from the imagination, capable of overcoming difficulties and barriers. It makes it possible to deal actively with work difficulties, such as the causes of stress, unemployment, changing professional careers, or the desire to undertake.
The initiative makes us do something new that had not occurred before, modify other things already in operation to improve the effects, or do it more intensely and differently to achieve the objectives.
Although different, people with initiative seem to have in common that they are entrepreneurs with a vision of something to do to improve the situation and overcome the possible difficulties that can appear along the way.
Everybody’s ability to think assists him in reaching adjusted solutions to problems with innovative accents. These accents lend an optimistic tone to prepare the subsequent phases to do good.
Committing to initiatives requires the courage to try something unknown, which involves taking risks. In general, the lack of conformity with how things are currently done leads to an attempt to do them better or yield more.
There is always a relation between the difficulties and the expected results. If not for the expectation of an excellent final balance, no one would try to change, nor would subject family members or other people to be involved in new things where there can be a reasonable probability of failure.
Initiative to emigrate: The attraction for emigration can be based, many times, on the governance and organization of the country of destination, which would allow reasonable growth rates, or also because the entire internal organization system makes us think that it will be a country of the future, with a good network of schools for young people; a health system expanding and acting with a sense of service. And where each person has the freedom to undertake the work initiatives through which s/he serves the society.
Those emigrating with the whole family can face surprises. It is always important to be optimistic and open to learning how to deal with them well, in the psychological aspects, to earn self-confidence, with the willingness to correct apparent failures.
Each person takes their knowledge and wisdom, contributing to the collective heritage of the destination country. If it were not for the millions of emigrants throughout the history of humanity, today, we could only know a small area of land with restricted types of flora and fauna, a monochromatic culture and little variety of architecture or construction and everything in a depressing monotony.
With broad horizons, there are also more varieties of flora and fauna and access to subsoil resources. Whatever the measure of appreciation is, the world seems wealthier and happier, and populations with emigrants manage to improve their standard of living. Portuguese discoverers had organized the system of spreading trees in their voyages from India to Africa, Brazil and the Far East, and vice-versa. We have many fruit trees in Africa, Brazil, India, and the Far East, without knowing where they initially came from.
Initiative to change professional focus: It will come as no surprise to anyone who wants to change their professional path in the country or when emigrating that adapting to new circumstances will be costly: continuing to do more of what we did is less demanding than a radical change. But there is always ‘hope’ that things will work out and the result will be positive.
In the same way as making a career choice or changing to something you like more, there may be an option to completely alter the profession, regardless of the preparation you chose in your youth.
Ideas of opening paths in personal and family life are relevant. The vast majority of initiatives lead to successful situations. Others are to forget because of the less positive effects, but they are still an essential source of teaching.
Despite some failures, perhaps resulting from rashness from not measuring the consequences, in general, almost all initiatives go in the right direction, giving rise to new ways of improving life or income.
In the company or within the family, it seems reasonable to cultivate the high value of initiatives because they mean openness to new possibilities taking further than the usual or routine. Also, it can be very educational for young people, introducing them to this field with questions, ideas and explanations to help them clearly define the content of what they want to do and the underlying reasons.
Initiatives of social impact: Many are happy with themselves and their families. Still, others look at the neighbourhood, the city or the village where they live. They detect what is missing or what would help others, they imagine how to create facilities and environment to benefit everyone and serve as places to rest or as meeting points for friends and their families.
For example, suggesting to the local authorities to make gardens with flowers and greenery, where older people can walk and rest, accompanied by their grandchildren. Other times, people may suggest installation of sports equipment tailored to local youth.
It may be interesting to start a library and a museum built with donated pieces of art and books, which will quickly increase when other people feel they can also contribute with their books and pieces of art.
Once the premises are there, why not promote choirs of young people and adults and cultural sessions to discuss current problems and solutions, along with comments on recently published books? There is a vast span of opportunities, and only time passing will testimony the impact of such initiatives for thousands of grateful people.
